The Imperfect Utopia: A Conversation with Artist, Carlos Betancourt

Join Curator of Latin American Art, Marion Oettinger, Jr., PhD, in conversation with influential mixed-media artist, Carlos Betancourt. Betancourt’s studio, Imperfect Utopia, was significant in the development of the contemporary art community in Miami—now an international premier location for artists, collectors, and enthusiasts alike. His work explores, among other topics, issues of memory and the nature of identity (both personal and cultural) through a diverse range of media, from collage to unconventional portraiture.

One of the artist’s seminal works, Infinity in Ashes with letter to Alberto (ca. 2003), is on display in the Museum's Modern and Contemporary Latin American gallery.

Mr. Betancourt will participate in a book signing to follow. His book, Imperfect Utopia, is available for purchase in the Museum Shop, both in-store and online.
