The Pelican Passage: Group intervention, Faena Arts Commission, Tide by Side, curated by Ximena Caminos, Claire Tancons, Jenny Gil and Zoe Lukov
Carlos Betancourt's The Pelican Passage is an enormous mixed media object inspired by pinatas, cakes and altars that invites participation around its imposing frame. It is a testament to Betancourt's Puerto Rican, Cuban and trans-cultural experiences and gesture towards the power of inclusion, memory and pleasures of belonging. 'Worshipers' will perform a choreography along the artwork's passage down Collins Avenue. The float-like sculpture is topped by a gold leafed pelican— a mythical figure loaded with — symbolism.
Production direction of The Pelican Passage by
Alberto Latorre
