CARLOS BETANCOURT
COLLECTION
It is a privilege to present this collection of diverse wallpaper designs for Casamonte. Like many artists, I am deeply fascinated by the intersection of art, architecture, and design—with a particular passion for wallpaper. More than decorative elements, wallpapers have a long and rich history of shaping the atmosphere of a space. They influence not just the visual character, but also the emotional tone of interiors, establishing a dialogue with all other surrounding design elements.
For these collections, as with much of my artistic practice, I drew upon personal memories and lived experiences as sources of inspiration. Some of the designs feature one-line drawings that reflect moments from my childhood, while others are inspired by recurring travels to the vibrant cultures and natural landscapes of Mexico and Greece. Additional patterns pay homage to the aesthetics of Miami and Palm Beach's Art Deco era and mid-century design.
At the heart of this collection lies the lush tropical and Caribbean landscapes of my upbringing in Puerto Rico. This natural beauty remains a continuous source of inspiration—most notably, Carlos’s Garden within El Yunque rainforest, a creative project I have nurtured for many years with the help of close friends. The garden serves as a living canvas, constantly fueling my imagination and now influencing this wallpaper line.
I am excited to expand my artistic practice into the realm of wallpaper design. My hope is that these patterns, rooted in memory, place, and emotion, will inspire new aesthetic experiences—infused with a sense of magic and beauty—and contribute to creating meaningful and lasting memories in the spaces they inhabit.
